Our Star product of this week is the Multi-Active Peptide Matrixyl Serum 25% – Containing all 3 Matrixyl Peptides

A powerful combination of Peptides, Matrixyl Peptides and active ingredients that all work together in synergy to prevent and decrease wrinkles, firm the skin, increase collagen production, protect from and reverse damage from glycation, reduce under-eye puffiness, reduce dark circles, and also fade away sun damage and dark spots.

Some of the ingredients and their amazing benefits – it’s worth knowing exactly what they do!

The Matrixyl Peptides

Matrixyl

Stimulates new collagen growth, and also elastin and hyaluronic acid. Absolute key components for healthy, hydrated, elastic, firm and smooth skin. Unfortunately, as we age they diminish – leaving our skin thinner, more dry/dehydrated and less plump. This ingredient significantly improves production and the appearance of skin.

Matrixyl 3000

This newer Matrixyl Peptide does all of the above, but it also helps to prevent damage to collagen through glycation and also manages to help reverse damage from glycation.

Glycation is a process where too much sugar in the body wraps itself around collagen fibres, causing them to become brittle. This creates wrinkles that appear on the skin’s surface in a criss-cross pattern and also causes the skin to sag and droop. Sugar really is one of the most ageing things to the skin!

Matrixyl Synthe’6

This peptide stimulates the synthesis of 6 major ingredients in the skin. These are – Collagen l, lll, lV, Fibronectin and Hyaluronic Acid.

Because of this, it results in stronger and firmer skin that is rebuilt from the inside. The effect of which is firmer skin with smoothed out lines and wrinkles.

Each Matrixyl Peptide does wonderful things for the skin on an individual basis. However, each one addresses something different, and therefore – together they’re so much more powerful!

Other Powerful Peptides

Acetyl Tetrapeptide-9

This peptide has been proven in clinical studies to increase the natural amount of collagen produced in the body. The best results were noted after around 4 months. At this point there was a dramatic increase in the skin’s firmness, elasticity and also in the plumpness of the skin.

Other Active Ingredients

Soy Rice Peptides

These peptides encourage a rapid increase increase in collagen synthesis, promoting smoother, firmer and more youthful looking skin. One of its big impacts though, is its ability to dramatically reduce dark circles and puffiness around the eyes. Studies showed a 35% reduction after 8 weeks of treatment.

Wild Mushroom Extract

Wild mushroom is an anti-inflammatory and so can be helpful for those that suffer with inflammatory skin conditions such as acne, rosacea and eczema. It’s also a potent antioxidant that will help to prevent free radical damage and it helps to improve and reduce lines and wrinkles. It also improves the skin’s tone.

Pepha-Tight

A highly purified biotechnically produced extract from micro-algae, combined with polysaccharides. It gives the skin an instant tightening effect, but it also has a long-term effect as it helps to protect the skin from free radical damage. Therefore protecting important collagen and elastin. Strengthening the skin’s connective tissue and also increasing collagen production.

Other ingredients in this star serum are – Aloe Leaf Gel, Cucumber Extract, Chamomile Flower Extract and also Japanese Green Tea.

We’d love to share some client love with you

Here’s what Francesca has to say about it

Been applying this serum morning and night together with NCN’s All-in-One cream on the right half of my face for 6 weeks now. On the left half of my face I’ve been applying my usual skin creams. A high-moisturising cream with Hyaluronic Acid in the morning, and a thick Retinoid cream at night. So, pretty stiff competition….

The Results

Well, after 6 weeks, Lo and behold, there IS a slight difference, the lines ARE noticeably smoother on the right side of my face! Why buy another serum, when this one has it all, molecule-wise! Most bang for your buck when you compare its ingredients to those of more expensive serums out there. The only way it could be even more perfect is with the addition of a light scent, as it has a slightly earthy smell, but otherwise, definitely one of the most important products in my skincare regimen now!

More Client Love for the Multi-Active Peptide Matrixyl Serum

Nantawan:

This is the best of its kind. You’ll have to pay at least 5 times the price to get the quality that is close to this one – in terms of ingredients and formulation. And I have yet to find any out there in the market that is as good as this. It is a gem!

Jane:

This is my favourite all round anti-ageing serum. It’s powerful and effective, but oh so gentle. I look forward to using it in the mornings because it’s like a fresh drink of water for my skin. It’s as good as the best eye serums I’ve used and easier than needing a separate product. It gets rid of eye rings and bags quickly, and fades crows feet. It reduces wrinkles everywhere, makes my skin look smoother, firmer, and younger. Love it.

If you’d like to learn more information about this serum, you can find it here.

Part Three of the Eye Rejuvenation series is about improving and preventing eye wrinkles.

In part one and two we looked at dark circles, bags and under-eye puffiness. Today is all about eye wrinkles, fine lines and crows feet. Some of the advice may sound the same, and to a degree it is, because protection is a must. Protection against damaging UV rays and free radical damage can never be stressed enough.

However, for many people, it’s a case of trying to reverse/repair  eye wrinkles and sagging that’s already there. If that’s you, don’t worry. There are many ingredients in skincare products these days that can make a big difference.

Prevention – it’s Never too late to Start

Before we get to the nitty gritty of improving lines and wrinkles that are already gracing our face, let’s touch on some important factors that help to prevent lines/wrinkles and sagging around the eye area.

Antioxidants are absolutely key in preventing premature ageing of the skin. I’ve written an in-depth blog post about antioxidants. But, in a nutshell, a diet rich in antioxidants and possibly also support from a carefully selected supplement that is rich in antioxidants, will make a big difference. Antioxidants fight damaging free radicals that form in the skin from a variety of factors. These include, stress, alcohol, toxins, medication, illness, sunlight etc. If there aren’t sufficient antioxidants to neutralise free radicals, they cause all kinds of chaos. The result is premature ageing of the skin. This results in the formation of lines and wrinkles and sagging skin.

Topping up with Antioxidant Rich Skincare Products

One of the best things you can do for your skin is to invest in antioxidant rich skincare products. This ensures that antioxidants are getting exactly where they need to be, to do the job that they need to do. As well as antioxidants, carefully selected products will also contain specific active ingredients that help to increase collagen production. This will help in firming the skin and also help to decrease fine lines and wrinkles.

Wear Sunglasses and Sun Protection

One of the key ways to prevent wrinkles and crows feet is to protect your skin from UV rays. Damaging UV rays break down collagen and elastin, which results in the sagging of skin and the formation of lines. I’m guilty of not doing this myself many years ago, and also of not always wearing sun protection in the form of sunglasses. I’d be squinting away in bright sunshine, all of which contributes to eye wrinkles and crows feet from the repetitive squinting. How I wish I’d invested more effort in protection myself when I was younger. The wrap-around sunglasses are particularly helpful as they cover the area at the side of the eyes (where crows feet form).

So, protection aside, we’ll now look at the products and ingredients that will help to reduce lines and wrinkles around the eyes.

Skincare Products that Reduce Eye Wrinkles and Firm Skin

As looked at in the previous posts – NCN’s Eye Fix, is the targeted eye treatment serum from NCN. It addresses dark circles, bags, puffiness, lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. It has a very impressive list of beneficial and effective ingredients. Two star ingredients are Regu-Age and Eyeliss. It combines its targeted ingredients with antioxidants too. They all work in synergy to really improve the skin around the eyes – giving you a more youthful appearance.

Retinol

Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A and is essential for skin cell renewal and repair. If you’re serious about increasing cell turnover in your skin and would love a reduction in lines and wrinkles – Retinol is amazing. NCN’s All-Trans Retinol is formulated to be encapsulated and time-released. Because of this, there is no irritation or dry and flaking skin. This can be an issue with some retinol products. NCN All-Trans Retinol is also blended with other skin-loving and calming ingredients such as, avocado oil, aloe leaf juice and cucumber extract. However, what really makes a big difference is the additional ingredient – Trylagen.

The Additional Ingredient – Trylagen

Retinol itself boosts collagen type l, but Trylagen boosts l, lll and lV. This helps to compensate for the decrease in collagen production which occurs as we age. It also protects the collagen that we already have and maintains the quality of collagen. In clinical trials, a cream containing Trylagen proved to significantly reduce the depth of wrinkles around the eyes. This was due to an improvement in the quantity of collagen being produced and also the quality improving. When you combine Retinol with Trylagen, you have a very powerful formula for improving the quality and health of your skin.

The amazing thing about this serum also, is that it can be used all around the eye area, including on the eyelids. When I use the retinol serum on an evening I definitely feel the difference in my skin the next day. If you’d like to read more information on Trylagen, you can find it here on the NCN Blog. As stated in this post, Trylagen can also be found in Skin Tight Lifting Elixir.

Multi-Active Peptide Matrixyl Serum 25%

This serum is a powerful combination of peptides, including the whole family of Matrixyl’s. These are – Matrixyl, Matrixyl 3000 and Matrixyl Synthe 6. Each do wonderful things individually, but combined together and also with other ingredients – it’s a real powerhouse product. Matrixyl serum decreases wrinkle depth and fills wrinkles out from the inside. It improves collagen production, reduces eye bags and dark circles and firms the skin. This serum, although not a targeted eye product, can be used all around the eye area and the eyelid to help improve eye wrinkles.

Other Products that can Help to Improve Eye Wrinkles

Most of the NCN products are able to be used around the eye area, although Copper Peptides should only be used on the crows feet area. There have been reviews from happy clients that find the Vitamin C Serum has helped to reduce wrinkles. DNA Serum and also Multi-Active Accelerator are also firm favourites.

NCN products are all formulated to boost collagen, protect collagen and improve skin health. So, whatever you choose to use will undoubtedly help you in improving your skin.

Just to remind you, if you’re simply looking for an eye product, Eye Fix is the one product that is specifically formulated to target all eye concerns. However, if you’re wishing to use an overall product, one of the others or a combination of others will bring you great results.

Help to Reduce Eye Wrinkles From the Inside out

As well as using amazing skincare products in the form of serums and creams, we’re able to supplement with targeted supplements too. We choose to stock Pure Elixir 01 as it’s clinically proven to reduce lines and wrinkles. In tests, it showed and improvement in not just lines and eye wrinkles, but also skin tone on the face and the body.

Pure Elixir offers the link between skin care and nutrition. As stated by Pure Elixir:

Just one capsule a day with water, helps deliver the skin you deserve“.

Pure Elixir is a combination of ingredients that include, Marine Collagen, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Lycopene, Soya Isoflavones and Hyaluronic Acid.

You can find out more information on Pure Elixir – here.

Pure Elixir eye wrinkle improvement

Pure Elixir eye wrinkle improvement

Just to round off the post. I’d like to add, and you most likely realise this – but little reminders can be good. Hydration makes a big difference to those pesky lines. I know when there are times that I haven’t drank as much water, or perhaps after a long haul flight, lines and eye wrinkles will look worse. So, top up as much as you can on natures best (and free) wrinkle filler – water!

We love nothing more than positive feedback from happy clients and being able to share that with you. It always excites us when clients notice improvements and a real difference in their skin. The review we’re sharing is for the NCN All-In-One Anti-Ageing Cream. All-In-One won an Editor’s Choice Award with The Beauty Shortlist in 2016.

A Jam-Packed Anti-Ageing Cream

All-In-One is as the name suggests. It’s an Anti-ageing Cream that’s packed with Vitamins and Minerals, Peptides, Actives and beautiful, skin-loving oils that nourish the skin. An ‘all-in-one formula’ for those that like to keep things simple, yet effective.

It was formulated for the 45+ age group, but it’s suitable for anyone wishing to nourish their skin. It will firm, lift and tighten the skin, reduce lines and wrinkles and prevent wrinkles and sagging. Your skin will also have a gorgeous and radiant glow. And we all love radiance and glow!

We’d love to share with you a review from the lovely, Francesca

A review of the NCN All-In-One Anti-ageing Cream

Francesca also added …

I work with chemical engineers who sell ingredients to cosmetic companies. They’re very impressed with the roster of super-effective ingredients in this All-in-One cream. Gave it a definitive thumbs up ! Personally, what I also love about this powerhouse product is its light texture and its soft lemony scent. It also has a lack of nasties like phenoxyethanol (toxic for children). Parabens and silicone, and also chemical thickeners. Because it’s lightweight, a couple of drops goes a long way and it covers the whole face and neck. This product really is worth every penny! I’ve already bought an extra one as a gift for my Mother, who is amazed by the results (she’s 72). I will also soon be buying some as gifts for my friends“.

Just a side note. The All-In-One is called an anti-ageing cream, however it’s not a thick cream. It applies like a thicker serum/lotion – a really beautiful formula.

If you’d like to find out more, just pop over to the page where you can find All-In-One Anti-Ageing Cream.

Product Highlight – Retinol for Smoother, Plumper, Firm Skin

If you’re serious about skin that’s healthy and smooth, and you want firm skin with a radiant glow – Retinol is seriously beneficial in your skin care regime, especially if you’re age thirty and over, with collagen levels that are declining each year. We need to do all we can to boost collagen and also increase cell turnover.

Vitamin A for cell Renewal and Repair

Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A and is essential for skin cell renewal and repair. It does an amazing job of nourishing the skin, helping to reduce lines and wrinkles, reducing the appearance of sun-damage and promoting a more even-toned complexion, as well as also helping to firm skin.

The Difference I Notice When I use it

I’ve chosen the NCN All-Trans Retinol for this weeks product highlight because it’s a retinol product with a difference. I have used it for the last few nights after not using it for around a week, and the difference in the plumpness of my skin in the mornings is very noticeable. When I touch my face I feel firm skin with a cushion-like feel, and it also feels more supple and smooth. I really like it when I don’t use something for a few days/weeks and then notice the benefits again when it’s added back in again!

No Irritation or Dryness

If you’ve used other retinol products before and your skin was left dry and flaking, you’re not alone.  However, the NCN All-Trans Retinol does not leave your skin feeling this way. It’s formulated to be encapsulated – so it can get right where it needs to be in the skin. The retinol is then time-released, so there’s no irritation at all. It’s also blended with soothing, skin-loving ingredients to ensure that you only wake up to softer, smoother skin, firm skin. It’s so gentle (yet powerful and effective) that it can be used all around the eye area and even on the eyelid. This helps to rejuvenate the eye area, smoothing and firming the delicate skin. It also helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes too.

An Additional Ingredient

Another benefit of the NCN All-Trans Retinol is that it includes an ingredient called Trylagen. Trylagen stimulates collagen types l, lll and lV. Collagen type lll is known as the youth collagen, as when we’re very young children over 90% of the collagen in our bodies is type lll. Which explains the firm skin of a child – smooth, plump and full of elasticity. Retinol itself stimulates type l collagen. The combination of Retinol and Trylagen together is very powerful in promoting more youthful looking skin and also skin that is healthier. If you’d like more in-depth information on Trylagen, you can read a thorough description at Lotioncrafter.

Here’s what Michelle has to say about using the retinol:

“Does what it says. It tightens the skin, gives a glow and has really done wonders around the eye-area. I switch between this product and the GHK – Cu Copper peptide with efg. This way the products last longer. If it’s a combination of the two I can’t say, but I can see results and I do no longer need to try other brands that don’t do what they say. I am very pleased. Thank you for this little bottle of wonder”.

If you’d like to find out more information, you can read all about the All-Trans Retinol on the product page.

Love Katy

Following on from part one in this three part blog series – all about rejuvenating the eye area. Today we’re looking at eye bags and puffiness under the eyes.

What Causes Eye Bags and Puffiness

There are several factors that can contribute to bags and puffiness and I’ll touch on those. I’ll also look at things that we can do to help eliminate eye bags and under-eye puffiness.

Most of us at some point or another has likely suffered with bags under the eyes. Perhaps from a lack of sleep, too much alcohol or from our dietary choices. Eye bags and puffy eyes can also be a factor that comes with age.

Ageing

As we age and the skin tissues weaken, which they’re prone to in the delicate eye area where skin is much finer. This leads to a lack of firmness and the sagging ‘bag’ appearance under the eyes. Collagen levels diminish each year as we age, and so encouraging collagen production, providing the building blocks needed to produce collagen and also protecting the skin from oxidative stress and sun damage, are all essential to avoiding that sagging, bag-like look.

Lifestyle Factors

Certain lifestyle factors can also be linked to eye bags and puffiness. Too much salt in the diet will encourage water retention, which can accumulate underneath the eyes, giving them a puffy appearance. Not drinking enough water also encourages water retention. Also, the position in which you sleep can affect the appearance of your eyes upon waking. I’m guilty of sleeping on my front quite often, but this sleeping position does nothing good for the eyes or face. Sleeping on your back is the best ‘beauty sleep’ position. I’m not sure anyone sleeps like that all night though.

Simple Changes That can Make a Difference:

Drink more water to discourage water retention
Reduce salt intake and switch to pink Himalayan salt or sea salt
Try to sleep on your back where possible
Lymphatic drainage massage – easy to do with fingers and incorporate into your skin care routine. I do this simple massage morning and night, sometimes quickly and sometimes I take much longer, time depending
I also like to use the Georgia Louise Rose Quartz Butterfly Stone or a rose quartz Gua Sha skin tool
Protect your skin with a diet rich in antioxidants, to fight free radicals that damage skin
Use specific Eye Care Products that protect the skin and use targeted ingredients to encourage collagen production and reduce eye bags/puffiness

Other Remedies That you can use From Your own Kitchen:

Chilled cucumber slices over the eyes help to cool and refresh the eye area
Teabags – soaked in warm water and then cooled in the fridge before placing over the eyes, are a mild diuretic and help to reduce puffiness

Face Yoga Method

I’ve recently become hooked on Face Yoga and the Face Yoga Method by the lovely Fumiko. Incorporating some face yoga moves specifically for the eye area and also moves that encourage blood circulation, can improve the skin’s elasticity. It can also improve the appearance of bags and puffiness. I’m not an affiliate for Fumiko, I simply admire her work. I love the benefits I notice myself from face yoga and will leave this link to a course I purchased. It’s a bargain and you might love it and find it useful.

Skincare Products to Help Reduce Eye Bags and Puffiness

Regarding eye products that help to target the concerns with rejuvenating the eye area. As mentioned before in the part one blog, NCN Eye Fix is a targeted product for the skin around the eyes. The ingredients are widely researched and hand-picked by Nanci (NCN’s Founder and an Aesthetician) for their effectiveness.

The NCN Multi-Active Peptide Matrixyl Serum 25% is also a product that can improve dark circles, bags, puffiness and target wrinkles. This serum can be used over the entire face, neck and decollete.

Here’s what Jane has to say about the Matrixyl Serum:

This is my favourite all round anti ageing serum. Love it.”

I hope you found this useful. If you did and you think it may help someone you know, please can you share.

With much gratitude

Katy

Have you heard of golden milk? or a turmeric latte? They’re basically the same thing. It’s a milky drink based around the super-antioxidant rich spice – turmeric. There are different variations out there and if you give one a try, you’ll likely make your own little tweaks to your own taste.

Golden Milk has actually become really popular as people realise more and more the health benefits of turmeric.

What is Turmeric

Turmeric is a spice and it contains compounds called Curcumin. Turmeric is known to have a vast amount of healing properties and has had thousands of studies proving the benefits of it and of its compounds – curcumin. It has been largely compared to conventional medicines in terms of its effectiveness, to which it rates very highly and is said to be just as beneficial. Turmeric is a very effective anti-inflammatory, and chronic inflammation is extremely ageing for the body. The anti-inflammatory benefits can help with all kinds of aches and pains. It can help to ease conditions such as arthritis, injury and fibromyalgia, as some examples. As an anti-inflammatory, it can also be beneficial to help ease skin conditions such as acne, acne rosacea, eczema and psoriasis.

There are so many links to different illness and disease prevention etc. If you’d like to read information about those you can find it over at Dr Axe.

How it Benefits Skin Health

In relation to skin health, anything that improves your general health is also improving your skin’s health, as ultimately your skin is a reflection of that. I wrote a previous blog post explaining what antioxidants are and why we need them to keep our skin functioning effectively. It also explains how they help to prevent premature skin ageing. Antioxidants are a vital key in retaining more youthful and glowing skin! So, eat as many as possible through your dietary choices. Top up with spices like turmeric in your cooking and drinks. Potentially supplement with them and use antioxidant rich skincare products.

In India it is Known for its Beauty Benefits

In India, Turmeric is used in many of the recipes and is also a spice that is recognised for its skin benefits. A couple off days before a Hindu wedding, both the bride and groom each hold what is known as a Haldi creremony. The Haldi paste is made with turmeric, sandalwood powder and rose water. The paste is then applied on the knees, feet, arms, hands and the face. It’s considered to be a cleanser for the body and soul in preparation for married life.

Turmeric is also widely used to make homemade face masks. It has antiseptic and antibacterial properties, so it can help in clearing the skin of acne and breakouts. It is also useful in helping to lighten hyperpigmentation and sun spots. This helps to promote a more even skin tone and give the skin a gorgeous glow.

Make Your own DIY Face Mask

To make your own face mask, get adventurous in the kitchen. Mix up some turmeric with a little water to make a paste. Try adding natural yoghurt, honey or some oats. A word of warning – Be mindful of skin staining and maybe don’t choose to do this right before you need to leave the house. If you don’t fancy mixing up your own concoction you can also find it in the rawgaia Organic Raw Chocolate Face pack.

Take it Daily Where Possible

To take turmeric daily, if you’re like me and you enjoy the taste, it’s easy to make golden milk. You can also add it to curries, stews, scrambled eggs, soups and smoothies … Wherever you think you can enjoy it basically. The other alternative is to supplement for those days that you can’t fit it into your diet.

To make Golden Milk/Turmeric Latte:

Choose your milk base – I use almond milk or coconut milk
Add to it a teaspoon of turmeric – or more if you prefer
I like to add a sprinkle of ginger, some cinnamon and a pinch of pink Himalayan salt
You might also like to add a little honey or vanilla if you prefer it sweeter.
You can warm it up in a pan or, what I do first is blend it all in my Ninja (smoothie maker), then warm it in a pan

Enjoy!

We’re in Love with the NCN new and Improved – I’m Covered Physical SPF 32 Cream

Some of you may remember the NCN I’M COVERED Physical Sunscreen from a couple of years back. We bring good news, it’s back and is new and improved. We may also add – it’s totally amazing!

It’s a Physical Sunscreen

Physical sunscreen provides a physical mineral barrier against UV rays. It actually deflects UV rays off the skin. It’s super-antioxidant rich and so it further enhances protection from free radical damage. Free radical damage causes premature skin ageing such as wrinkles and sagging skin.  I’m Covered contains specific ingredients that will help to fade away any existing sun damage, as well as preventing the formation of new sun spots.

It Inhibits the Enzymes that Cause the Break Down of Collagen

It inhibits enzymes that cause collagen to break down, while also boosting collagen production. A true anti-ageing product in both protecting all-important collagen and elastin, and also in boosting the production of collagen. Collagen is what keeps skin firm, strong and smooth. As we age we lose collagen every year. Protecting and boosting it is vital if we want our skin to stay youthful looking for as long as possible.

It Sinks in and Leaves no Trace of White on the Skin

It feels lightweight, non-greasy, and it also sinks into the skin easily. It’s moisturising to the skin, without feeling heavy or sticky and it also makes the perfect makeup primer, so you don’t need to buy a separate product. You literally cannot see a trace of the sunscreen once it’s applied. No white cast is visible, which can sometimes be a problem with a physical sunscreen.
It contains almost 120 ml of product – so you will find it does last for a long time.

If you’d like more information pop on over to the Sun Protection page and check out I’M COVERED.

We also recommend helping to boost your skin’s protection from the inside out. You can do this with certain foods and supplements, which we wrote about in another post.

Wednesday Wisdom – For Youthful and Healthy Skin

A little bit of Wednesday wisdom … nothing new, but a little reminder that if you’re not already wearing a broad spectrum SPF cream on a daily basis – it’s a very wise move to do so! A good quality SPF cream worn daily to protect your skin against damaging UV rays and to help preserve more youthful and healthy skin, is one of the best daily habits you can make.

Sun Damage is Accumulative

UV rays are always present, whether the sun is shining brightly or it’s overcast and grey. Sun damage can come from those obvious times of perhaps burning yourself when you didn’t realise how strong the sun was. Playing out as a

By the window

child all day and coming in with rosy cheeks. It can also be accumulative over time. Those times of working by a window in your favourite spot. Sitting by a window to relax. Gardening all day without sunscreen. Going on a long walk, or simply travelling in the car. The things we do daily that we wouldn’t notice having any impact on our skin. However, years later the accumulative damage presents itself in the form of wrinkles, sagging skin, sun spots and a mottled, uneven complexion, or even worse than premature ageing – skin cancer.

Make Sunscreen a Daily Habit – for Healthy Skin

A picture I’ve shared before flagged up on the internet last night and that’s what popped into my head to share today, as a reminder of the importance to wear sunscreen daily and to be careful in the sun. I used to be a real lover of the sun and to be honest I still am! I mean, who doesn’t enjoy the way the sun makes us feel? But I’m so careful now compared to years ago. Years ago I loved to go on holiday and come back as tanned as possible and also during my days of travelling to hot countries when I worked as an Air Stewardess. I was very carefree about sunscreen back then. But, for the past 10 years I’ve been militant about wearing a daily SPF cream. You can’t change the actions from your past, but you can change what you choose to do now and going forward.

The Picture to Remind you of the Damage UV rays can Cause

Here’s a picture that has been shared many times over. It shows a 69 year old man that had been a delivery driver for

Sun damage on one side - wear sunscreen - healthy skin

Sun damage on one side of face

28 years. He’d never worn sunscreen and the damage was from the UV rays penetrating the glass windows. He chose to allow this image to be shared worldwide to highlight just how much damage UV rays can cause – even through windows.  You can see that the left side of his face (he’s American and that is the side that was next to the window) is extremely wrinkled and sagging in comparison to the right side. Thankfully he doesn’t have any skin cancer present, however, he is being monitored closely and regularly.

With this in mind, stay safe and make sunscreen a daily habit.

P.s, these are my daily defenses against UV rays – NCN Vitamin C+ Serum and NCN I’m Covered Physical Sunscreen.

Love Katy

Rejuvenate the Eye Area and Reverse the signs of Ageing

Firm skin around the eye area. Smooth skin that is tight, dense, with good elasticity and relatively line free. Firm and lifted eyelids that aren’t touching the lashes, and an even skin tone, void of dark eye circles and with just a hint of some laughter lines to show character … This is what we all probably take for granted in our younger years and would love to maintain for as long as possible.

Unfortunately, the delicate eye-area with its thinner skin is one of the first places on our face to show the signs of ageing. So, care must be taken if we’re to prevent accelerated ageing. However, if you’re like me and you weren’t always careful when you were younger, well thankfully there is much we can do now to help in rejuvenating the eye area and also delay further ageing.

A Three Part Blog Series Dedicated to the Eye Area

I’m writing a series of 3 blogs dedicated to this subject and I’ll cover ingredients in skincare products that help, as well as other tips to rejuvenate this delicate area and prevent/delay further ageing.

Today, in part one, we will look at dark under-eye circles.

Dark Under Eye-Circles – The Possible Causes

Dark circles may appear in tired skin due to a sluggish circulation. The blood flow in the under-eye area almost stops, and the dark bilirubin pigment in the haemoglobin from the deoxygenated blood can leak from capillaries into tissue spaces. The skin in the under-eye area is very thin and delicate, therefore it is much more visible and will appear as a  purple/grey discoloration underneath the eyes.

However, this is a condition that can also be hereditary. Other factors that can  influence the cause of dark circles are hormones and a lack of sleep. In addition, sun damage and premature skin ageing can also be a factor, where the skin is thinner due to the loss of collagen and elastin.

Poor Circulation

If the cause, or one of the possible causes of dark under-eye circles is poor blood circulation, then improving blood flow is essential. Poor circulation may be due to age, lifestyle factors or even illness. Factor depending, this will determine what you’re able to do to boost circulation. However, one of the best ways to boost circulation and get some vital oxygen into the body is to get outside and exercise in the fresh air, get your body moving and get the blood flowing around the body delivering nutrients effectively, right where they need to be. This also helps antioxidants to be delivered exactly where they need to be and ready to fight damaging free radicals that cause oxidative stress and premature skin ageing.

Another way to boost circulation is by simply using your hands and fingers to massage the skin. Gentle massage around the eye area (you can be more firm over the rest of the face) and lightly tapping with the fingertips will help to boost circulation and bring life to the skin. You’ll see the benefits in your complexion if you take an extra five minutes in your skin care regime to do this, rather than simply applying products to the skin and leaving them to sit on the skin’s surface.

Thinner Skin in the Delicate Eye-Area

Where the skin is much finer around the eye-area, and particularly if there is sun damage or premature ageing, a boost to collagen production is vital to strengthen the skin. Antioxidants are also vital in this delicate area to prevent free radical damage. Using targeted eye products that contain antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients will help greatly to improve the skin’s strength and prevent further damage. As the skin in this area is plumped up and strengthened with increased collagen, this reduces any visible darkness.

Ingredients that Specifically Target Dark Under-Eye Circles

Regu-Age PF

Regu-Age PF is a combination of Hydrolysed rice protein (peptides), Glycine Soja (purified natural soy) and Superoxide Dismutase. It’s paraben free and clinically proven to reduce dark circles and improve skin texture by more than 30% in just four weeks. Below I’ll explore what each individual component of Regu-Age PF does to improve the skin in the eye-area.

Hydrolysed Rice Bran Protein
Increases circulation and oxygen supply to the finer tissues in the under-eye area. It helps to therefore prevent the standstill of blood flow that appears as dark eye circles. Strengthens collagen and visibly reduces the appearance of dark circles.

Glycine Soja Protein
Is an antioxidant that prevents damage to collagen and elastin due to neutralising the damaging free radicals.

Superoxide Dismultase
Helps to firm and tighten the skin as it protects the skin with its super-antioxidant properties. Protects the delicate tissues from oxidative stress and the breakdown of collagen and elastin fibres – which result in loose thinner skin and lines and wrinkles. This firming and tightening of the skin helps to reduce the appearance of dark eye circles.

Another Beneficial Active Ingredient

Eyeliss

Eyeliss is also a combination of three ingredients:

Dipeptide VW Peptide
Helps to stimulate lymphatic drainage and keeps excess fluid from settling in the under-eye area.

Lipopeptide Pal – GQPR
This peptide increases the elasticity and firmness of the skin – therefore improving the appearance of the under-eye area.

Hesperidin Methyl Chalone
Strengthens the capillary walls and lowers the blood flow passing through the tiny blood vessels. The stronger capillary walls help the skin to lose the darker tone in this area.

Other Active Ingredients that are Beneficial in Improving Dark Eye Circles

Matrixyl and Matrixyl 3000
Both help to improve the appearance of dark eye circles. They have other benefits that I’ll talk about in one of the other blog parts.

Soy Rice Peptides
These have been shown to dramatically reduce dark under-eye circles. In clinical trials they were shown to reduce dark circles by up to 35% in just 8 weeks of treatment. Microcirculation in the skin is also improved with Soy Rice Peptides.

As a lack of sleep can be a factor that contributes to dark circles, we’ll look at what can help you achieve a better quality of sleep …

Try and get Quality Sleep

A lack of good quality sleep can certainly give us tired eyes and exacerbate dark circles. Aim to get at least 7 or 8 hours of quality sleep each night and you’ll wake up to skin that’s more rejuvenated and rested. Try and switch off from technology as early as possible. Take a relaxing bath with Pink Himalayan Salts and essential oils. Spritz the

Get more sleep to reduce dark eye circles

room or your bedding with a slumber spray to help you relax. Taking Magnesium Citrate can also be beneficial in helping you to relax and bringing on a deeper sleep. I have personally noticed a big difference when I take it. I carefully sourced a capsule supplement rather than a tablet. I’m really impressed with the brand, the purity, and the personal service and knowledge provided after purchasing.

Another factor that can contribute to dark under-eye circles is sun damage.

Protect Your Skin from UV Rays

We all know that we should be wearing an SPF Cream daily to protect our skin from damaging UV rays. Daily SPF protection, combined with extra antioxidant protection from your eye care product (providing it’s antioxidant rich) will help to protect the delicate skin around the eyes from sun damage and premature ageing that thins the already thin skin further. In addition, wearing sunglasses to shield the eyes is also very beneficial in preventing sun damage, and therefore the possibility of developing or worsening dark eye circles.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there are a number of things we can do to improve dark eye circles and also prevent them. Get good quality sleep as much as possible. Protect the delicate skin around your eyes from UV rays and free radical damage with an SPF Cream and targeted antioxidant rich skincare products. Improve circulation with exercise and massage the eye area gently when applying products, gently tapping them in. Do not drag the skin in this more fragile area.

You are able to find the targeted ingredients discussed in this post, in the NCN Eye Fix rollerball serum. This targeted eye-care product dispenses the perfect amount of serum right where it’s needed. And if you need a little help in concealing dark circles and help to even out the tone of the skin – we love Bio-Essence Multi-Effect BB Cream.

I hope you found this article useful. If you did, can I ask that you please share it so it can help others. Thank you.

For such a long time fats were perceived as a bad thing, something to avoid in our diets. Thankfully, people are realising that fat isn’t the enemy. Good fats in your diet make such a difference and are essential for smooth supple skin that glows with health. They moisturise the skin from within and improve skin’s elasticity and plumpness.

Why Essential Fatty Acids Are So Important For Skin Health

Free fatty acids are what make up fats and oils, and they are a vital component of healthy cell membranes. They also form part of what is known as the epidermal lipids and sebum.

The epidermal lipids form part of your skin’s natural barrier function – this is the waterproof barrier that protects your skin and keeps harmful substances out. The barrier function’s health and its functioning has a big impact on your skin’s health and how it looks and feels.

A Lack Of Essential Fats Will Impair Your Skin’s Natural Barrier Function

A diet that is lacking in essential fatty acids will feel dry and possibly flakey. They are known as essential fatty acids because they are exactly that – essential. An impaired barrier function from the lack of fats will mean that there is water loss from the skin. The water loss means it will most likely be dehydrated as well as dry.

Skin that is dehydrated won’t function properly, so it will appear tired and lifeless. It will be lacking in volume and plumpness, with lines and wrinkles being exacerbated.  Natural cell turnover will slow down and there will be a build up of dead surface skin cells that contribute to the dull appearance.

Plump Juicy Skin From Within

Including good fats and oils in your diet will help skin to feel moisturised from within. Skin will feel thicker and more supple. It will also feel plumped up with improved elasticity and cell membranes will be healthy and strong. The skin’s natural barrier function will be stronger and offer better protection from unwanted substances entering the skin, so there is less chance of inflammation and infection. The healthy barrier means that the skin will retain more water – which will improve the skin’s volume and plumpness, giving it that ‘juicy’ healthy look of supple skin that is hydrated, moisturised and healthy, rather than resembling the skin of a fruit that is losing its moisture. Fruit that is dried out, lacking in volume and with surface lines and wrinkles.

Foods that Promote Healthy and Supple Skin that Glows

Good fats to include in your diet that promote your skin’s health and improve the elasticity of skin are:

Nuts and seeds. The best sources of omega 3 are walnuts, chia and flaxseeds. Oils – Coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil and avocados. Oily fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines, and also high-quality and high-strength omega 3 fish oil supplements.

Skincare product-wise, using products that contain ingredients such as ceramides and natural plant oils can improve how your skin looks and feels too, helping you to achieve healthy glowing skin that feels great.
